{roses or "rowes"}

A rose by any other name would smell as sweet.  Ethan recently added the word "roses" to his vocabulary and will point to the roses outside if you ask him where the roses are. Garrett weeded and pruned the rose bed yesterday and brought these beauties in for me to enjoy. (Isn't he sweet?) We've had a lot of blooms in the past week and I have been enjoying having fresh flowers in the house!

Ethan's 2nd Birthday Party!

We celebrated your second birthday with a woodland creature themed party on Saturday, January 14th. You had both sets of your Grandparents, Uncle Adam & Aunt Hailey, Aunt Morgan, and Aunt Astrid there to celebrate with you! We had a great time and you loved being the center of attention this year. It was so much fun to see you enjoying your party!

Tortilla roll-ups, baby carrots with humus, m&m's, "acorn snacks", iced tea, bottled water, and a party keg of Root Beer. The Root Beer party keg was such a fun novelty. And Virgil's old fashioned Root Beer tastes great!

1 year old to 2 year old comparison shots. It's amazing how much growth and change happens in your second year!

Acorn snacks: Hershey kisses, mini vanilla wafers, and pretzels glued together with chocolate frosting.

As always, you loved the balloons.

and Bailey loved your balloon strings!

When we sang "Happy birthday to you" you smiled at the "you" part in the birthday song. It was a smile of wonderment like you couldn't believe that we were all singing just for YOU! It was one of the sweetest birthday moments and one that I will treasure.

You ate a Hershey kiss off of the "acorn snack" but you weren't interested in your cupcake (gluten free) or ice cream.

You knew what to do with the presents this year and enjoyed them more than the wrapping paper! As soon as you opened each toy you wanted it out of the box so you could play with it.

** Few random details**

You bonded with your Uncle Adam and gave him hugs and wanted to play with him and sit in his lap. He is the first person other than your Daddy or I who you have given hugs to! You tend to be pretty shy so it was a big deal that you took to him so fast.

Your Mimi and Poppy came a little early so that they could spend some time with you. While they were here you did puzzles with them and went for a walk outside. While you were outside you saw a squirrel and you pointed it out to them and called it a cat.

Aunt Morgan enjoying your smiles

 I didn't take pictures of all the presents but I did take a few pictures of these party themed items:

A verbose week!

A certain little Mr significantly expanded his vocabulary this week! He went from 14 words to 24 words. And the part that cracks me up is that he pronounces them perfectly (except for the word "Help"). No less than perfect attempts from this kid.

You can imagine my surprise when he held up a giraffe puzzle piece and said "Giraffe" loud and clear. I asked him to repeat it and he ignored me and went along with his puzzle like nothing had happened. Pretty much par for his language. Most of the time he doesn't see much need to repeat himself. ;-)

I also think its funny that he will say "juice" yet the only time I can entice him to drink it is when he is sick. Milk he would live on if I would let him but yet he won't even attempt to say it. Closest I've gotten is getting him to repeat the "Mmm" sound. Once. Ha.

We are so proud over his new words! :-)

new words:

giraffe
eye
truck
car
bee
hat (also said "Dada's Hat")
juice
go! (uses it by itself or will finish the phrase "ready, set..")
ow!
ball

(old words)
Mama
Dada
Cat
Kitty
Shoes
Stack
Drop
Uh Oh
"A hug"
"Your welcome"
Help!
Dog
Cow
ceiling

{Picture: Ethan can use a spoon perfectly without spilling a drop but he has decided to shake things up lately and eat creatively. Sometimes this involves using a spoon with no hands and sometimes this involves eating yogurt with his fingers. He keeps it interesting over here!}

someone noticed....

...that he could see his own reflection in my big 'ol camera lens. ;-)

(ps- I know the processing is atrocious. haha. Drives me nuts. The lighting was horrible and I can't spend much time at the computer finessing images these days. Come on 2nd trimester!)

Time to fess up...

I know I've been absent from this little blog of mine for quite a while. Part, I know I've explained and part I haven't. January started off busy but since then I haven't been on the computer much at all. I've hardly taken any photos and nap times and evenings have been used for sleep instead of editing.

But I have a good reason.

A good little reason. :-)

And this little reason is due September 17th, 2012.

{Garrett was working really late the day I found out. I couldn't stay awake any longer so I borrowed a sticky bun from Ethan's play food stash and left it in the oven for Garrett to find when he came home. He woke me up holding the bun and asked me if it meant what he thought it meant. Yep, honey, it does!}
