37.5 Weeks!

Well, I'm now 37 1/2 weeks pregnant with 18 days left till my due date! I had my first internal exam at my doctors appointment yesterday and I am surprised (but happy) to say that I am 80% effaced and 2.5 cm dilated. Glad to know that all the aches and pains from the last few weeks haven't been in vain and that my body is doing what it should! My doctor's prediction is that I will not go past my due date. She thinks I will have the baby in about a week to a week and a half (39 weeks). Now I know that's just a guess and that baby's have their own time table so only time will tell! But I do have to say that it was nice hearing her say that she thinks it will be sooner rather than later. :-) My first reaction was "Wow...that's soon...yay!" and then about 10 minutes later it hit me, " Wow...that's SOON!" and I started thinking of my "to do" list. :-) Garrett gently reminded me that the time to get stuff on my "to do" list done was probably weeks ago not now when everytime I bend down or stand up I get contractions, so I may just let the list go.... we'll see. I start maternity leave on Monday so I may find that I have more energy when I'm home all day rather than trying to get stuff done after a full day of work.

Here are two pictures from today:

I know I look very pregnant in these photos but somehow I still feel suprised that I don't look bigger. I FEEL much larger than I look! :-)

36 weeks!

Saturday, December 19, 2009

Ow !

Well I am up again in the middle of the night with painful braxton hicks contractions. They've been particularity painful tonight. I was up at from 2-3 AM and now again from 5 AM- ?. At least I got some sleep in between! This week was the start of them becoming painful. And boy did they! It seems to be just at night that they become painful and when they do it wakes me up out of a sound sleep and feels like a constant backache and stomach ache for around an hour before it tapers off. Nothing I can time, just the constant cramping feeling. Wish I had known that this was coming so I could have actually asked questions about coping with it during our prepared childbirth class that we finished a week ago! Not sure how to help it but getting up and moving around seems to lower the pain down so thus I'm blogging at 6 AM :-)

Anyways though, I am thankful for the following:

- That its a Friday Night/Saturday Morning. I don't have to be tired and working.
- That I have only 29 more days left until my due date.
- That I'm fortunate enough to even BE at this point. I'm 36 weeks pregnant!
- That I have two very lovable nocturnal kitties who are THRILLED to see me up in the middle of the night.
- That I have a pretty Christmas tree to go look at during the middle of the night! Its all lit up and magical looking- wait- we have it on a timer so it really shouldn't be on at this time of night, but oh well, I'll fix it later. :-) I'm enjoying it for now!

And now to go get another tall glass of water, and sit in front of my tree with my kitties..... Goodnight!

Baby's Room!

Over the last two weeks Garrett and I have been slowly working on the baby's room. Well, baby's half of the room (he has the bigger half). We still have one wall that will be the office. Here are a few before and after pictures:

Unfortunately the day we decided to dismantle the room I realized just moments before that we had never taken pictures of the "Man Cave" and I didn't have time to tidy up. However, to be honest, this room was always the last room on the cleaning checklist so it often times did look this bad. Whoops! Oh well. At least the pictures are honest. :-)

View from the doorway.

This is the wall that is remaining as our home office space.

And now for the transformation.... (this is still a work in progress)

The canvases over the crib aren't painted yet, but they will eventually be a bright background color (like in the quilt) with a different colored letter on top spelling out the baby's name.

We still need to add the knobs on the dresser and we need to decide which decorations go on top. Right now we have both the anchor and the boat. Garrett votes on the anchor because we have a boat painting next to it (painted by Kalyn), but I'm slightly partial to the boat because it has more presence. What do you think?

We plan on eventually painting the dresser whimsically with different colors that match his room, but for now we are just going to paint the wooden knobs blue to match the darker blue on his sheets. We were afraid to start sanding, painting, etc because Garrett is pretty busy these days working on his demo reel and thesis and we didn't want to get caught with a baby and no dresser. We definitely need the space that the dresser creates for us! (Thanks Tim and Annette!)

Thanksgiving! (late post)

Okay, I know this post is a bit late, but I started it and then it sort of went on hold for a while. :0)

For Thanksgiving this year Garrett and I went to Abilene. It was great to be in Abilene again- Last time Garrett and I were both there together was the 4th of July. The day after thanksgiving Garrett and my Dad went to an all guys camp out that my Uncle Mack hosts every year on his ranch for the men in the family (and friends). They had a blast. :-) My Mom, Astrid, and I didn't do any of the early morning sales but we did stop by Hobby Lobby and Michaels for some discounted craft supplies. I bought some ribbon to decorate the baby's burp cloths. My Mom helped me decorate them and between the two of us we decorated them all!

Here is a picture of our handiwork!

Now I'd like to take a moment to brag on my sweet husband. :0) We were out on a walk Thursday night and it was pretty cold out. I can't even come close to closing my jacket around my belly so I was holding it closed with one hand. Garrett stopped and switched coats with me and he wore my coat instead. There is something about seeing your man wearing a woman's jacket so that you can wear his and stay warm that makes your heart melt. It was definitely a falling in love with him all over again moment.

Sunday night we got back home and pulled out our Christmas tree! I like to get the Christmas tree up as soon as possible after Thanksgiving so that we can maximize our Christmas tree time. Of course our cats helped in the process!

Bailey and Garrett

Here are two photos from last year- the cats did the same thing this year but I didn't take any pictures of their light string shenanigans.

Of course Bailey (unlike Beau) is careful not to get caught chewing lights on film. :0) He's a good cat.

Catching up: November 14th and 21st

11/14:

This weekend my sweet Mother drove into town to paint our baby's room! She knew how busy Garrett has been with school and working on his demo reel so she wanted to help him out by painting the room for him. It was so much fun having a weekend with just my Mom. Other than painting we also went Christmas shopping together and did fun girly things like eating pretzels and ice cream cones at the mall. It was a lot of fun and reminded me of shopping trips together when I was a teenager. :-) I'm so glad that she was able to make it in town for the weekend!

11/21: Baby Shower!

This weekend Garrett and I drove to the Fort Worth/Arlington area for our baby shower! My Mom's friend Robbie threw us a wonderful shower! We had so many people show up and the decorations and food were fantastic. Robbie did an excellent job!

Here are a few pictures from the shower (Thanks Astrid for taking the photos!):

Each of the shower favors had 9 Hershey's kisses inside- one for each month of pregnancy!

My sister Morgan woke up at 5 am so that she could join us at the shower via Web cam! Morgan is studying abroad in Japan for her Sophomore year!

Here I am 32 weeks pregnant!

We had a great time celebrating with our family and friends!

Best BBQ Sandwich EVER

I’m really not sure I want to admit this. It’s embarrassing. Today I cried over a BBQ sandwich. This kid needs to be born.

So my second and third trimester cravings have been BBQ. Specifically, chopped beef sandwiches or sliced brisket. I never get tired of it. Since Saturday, I have eaten 4 chopped beef sandwiches. Today, I got another strong craving for BBQ. I had to have it. I don’t think I’ve ever felt this way about a sandwich before.

I decided to go home for lunch today so that I could make a quick sandwich with the fully cooked chopped brisket that I bought at the grocery store. I came in the door and Garrett looked surprised and happy to see me (I don’t usually come home for lunch). I happily told him that I came home and was going to make myself a BBQ sandwich- He instantly froze and had a stricken look on his face.

“Honey, I don’t think we have any BBQ left”. “Yes we do, I saw it”. “No, I think that was yesterday, I think its all gone”. I looked in the fridge- he was right. He asked me if there was anything else that I wanted and I instantly burst into tears. I knew it was bizarre and insane to be crying but I couldn’t help it. Being the supportive husband he is, he gave me a big hug and rubbed my back as I tried to stop the flow of big crocodile tears that were staining my shirt. I felt him shaking- I’m pretty sure he was repressing laughter because as I pulled away I noticed him wipe a tear out of the corner of his eye before he assumed a serious concerned looking face and asked me if I would like to go out for lunch.

He had already eaten a peanut butter and jelly sandwich before I arrived but he took me out for a chopped BBQ sandwich anyway. Isn’t he sweet? At times like this, I’m so glad that I’m married to him.

And seriously, my due date needs to hurry up and get here. I’m losing my mind.

Knitting

Okay, so as a follow up on my comment earlier about my plans to spend today on the couch knitting....

Just to let you know, I could never do this without my two helpers- Bailey and Beau. They are my quality control testers.

Beau is in charge of inspecting softness:

(Although Beau loves baskets and bags of any kind I never thought he would try to make a nest out of my knitting bag!)

Bailey (my string assassin) is in charge of durability:

Just so you know, Morgan, this scarf is for you! A little bit of love from home from the three of us! (Bailey, Beau, and I- just in case you were confused and thought it was Garrett the baby and I! ;-) )

Rachel's Wedding- post 2

Last night WAS a lot of fun! I didn't post many details because of how tired I was but it was beautiful and fairy-tale like. She had a tent reception and with all of the lights and branch decorations that she used it looked like something out of a mid-summer nights dream (minus the fairies). She even had white pumpkin decorations holding flowers as well as more traditional flower arrangements. The amazing part is that my friend Rachel and her aunt did all of the flowers, and my friend Rachel did all 3 of her wedding cakes herself! The reason why she made three cakes is because she couldn't decide on a flavor- and I don't blame her- they were all fantastic! Some people were a little skeptical that she would be able to handle all the work but she did and she did a amazing job of it. We were all really impressed.

It was fun doing all of the Matron of Honor activities and being a part of all of the hustle and bustle. Today however- WHOA- I am definitely feeling every single bit of my 7 months pregnant! (It was worth it though!) Maybe I'll just take it easy today- sit on the couch and knit- instead of trying to tackle my massive to-do list. ;-)

As a side note- This morning I got my weekly pregnancy update from thebump.com and it started out with "Week 30: Your massive belly....." and it went into the typical symptoms etc. I like that- "Your massive belly"- that pretty much sums up how I feel whenever I see photos of myself! I'm amazed by how big I have become and that I still have further to go! AND according to my doctor I'm doing great at staying in my weight gain range so this means I'm SUPPOSED to look like this! :-)

Rachel's Wedding!

Tonight was my friend Rachel's wedding. It was magical and beautiful-just like something out of a dream. Garrett was one of the groomsmen and I was the matron of honor. We both had a great time and everything (at least everything important) seemed to go smoothly. I'm happy for them both! It was fun seeing our friends get married!

As promised, here are a few of the bridal portraits that I took of Rachel at the end of September:

Week 29 Photo

Wow- I can't believe that the last time I took a belly shot in the red tank top was week 21. Whoops! I kind of let time get away from me. I was pretty shocked at the difference when I saw these photos!

Week 29:

My tank top only barely covers the elastic belly panel and only if I pull it firmly down first! I can't believe its so short on me now. It was so long in front when I first bought it at 7 weeks pregnant!

In this photo Garrett didn't want me to pull the tank top down as it started to ride up. He said it didn't look as natural. I'm trying to hide the belly panel which is peaking out!

Compare these to my week 21 photo!

Another thing I'd like to point out- I'm not the only thing that has changed in the photo! Notice that our house is starting to look like a baby lives here. :-)

Ups and Downs

Whew! What a week. I don't know why, but this has been a rough week for me. It hasn't been all bad though, just a serious of ups and downs! But hey, I'm 29 weeks pregnant- things are bound to not be perfect all the time. I'm in the 3rd trimester now!

3 Ups for the week:

- On Tuesday I had my routine doctors appointment to check up on the baby. I passed my glucose screening with flying colors (Yay!!) and found out that I'm a little bit anemic. I know, the anemia part doesn't sound like an up, but I've been really tired lately and this gives me hope that the iron pills I'm supposed to take might give me some energy back. So the hope of more energy is definitely an up. Also, I got to see a quick ultrasound of the baby! Some of you may know that the baby hasn't been very active lately. I haven't been TOO worried because he does move a couple times during the day, but sometimes he'd make me wait a full day before I'd feel anything. This was a big change from a few weeks ago and at my last appointment the doctor said that I would be feeling the baby move a lot by this point so I was starting to get a bit concerned. When I asked the doctor about it she said that it could be normal if he's changed positions but that she wanted to check it out to make sure. Sure enough, the little guy just changed positions and is making it hard for me to feel him! At the moment he is head down but turned backwards so that he is kicking towards my spine. I can't feel those kicks. Also, my placenta is in the front of my stomach and it makes it harder for me to feel him as well (this explains why I've been at the tail end of the normal time line for when I should feel his movements). On the ultrasound we could see him moving a lot and he has been swallowing amniotic fluid as he should and there is plenty of fluid around him- so he's doing great!

- On Thursday we were able to get my car in for warranty work to get the knocking noise under the hood fixed. Now my car is quiet when it drives and there are no warning lights on the dash! Yay! Also, they washed and vaccumed my car while they serviced it. That was definitely a nice plus. Oh yeah, and since it was warranty work, it didn't COST A THING! (well, I know the warranty originally cost us- but there was no up front cost for the repair)

- Today we carved pumpkins and roasted the seeds! Garrett and I look forward to doing this every year so this was a big up. We had a lot of fun and carved pumpkins with friends so it made for a great night! Plus it was some fun recreational time with my husband. With school the way it is for him right now our quality time together is even more precious.

3 Downs for the week:

- Morning Sickness. Ugh. Every now and then it comes back. It was constant for the first 14 weeks, weeks 14-16 sporadic and then around week 26 it came back sporadically. This week was one of the worst since the first trimester though. The whole first half of the week I was pretty nauseated and had to resort to extra snacking and drinking sprite to settle my stomach. Thursday Garrett was super sweet and made me a nice breakfast. The smell of eggs set my stomach on edge but I ate them and then followed them up with a cinnamon roll (thinking the carbs would help my stomach sit better than just eating protein). Well 5 minutes later I got sick. I had gotten up early and had PLENTY of time for a leisurely breakfast and then I would have even been early to work, but after I finally settled my stomach enough to feel comfortable leaving the house I was 1 minute late to work. May not sound like much, but the way our keypads track things, that 1 minute will make me show up on a report that I was late. I hate that because it makes me look iresponsible. Then today (Saturday) I woke up and before I could eat breakfast the same thing happened and I was ill again. Lets just hope that tomorrow is a better day.

- Friday my snack (cheese cubes) was stolen out of the fridge at work. I know that my not sound like a big deal to some, but it was my protein snack (seems to help better than carbs when I'm having a rough week) and I had timed it out perfectly to keep the nausea at bay. Plus, its just plain rude! I had my name and the date on it and everything. All the pregnancy hormones made me take this a little bit harder than I normally would, which is frustrating. I felt like crying which is so stupid- normally I wouldn't have let it bother me so much. Its hard when you feel hormonal and a little crazy but the sane part of you knows that its really not a bit deal and you need to let it go. I eventually stopped fixating on how much I wanted my cheese and just took an early lunch so that I wouldn't get too sick to my stomach.

- Thursday I woke up in the middle of the night with an AWFUL charlie horse in my left calf. Stupidly in my sleepy stupor, I pointed my toes downward and made the pain even worse. Well, its been 3 days now and I still have pain in my calf from the charlie horse. It hurts to walk up and down stairs and well, it hurts to WALK. In the mornings its worse and I hobble around. Finally, its the evening of the third day and the pain is lessening and I'm walking more normally so I think its finally starting to go away.

- Okay, this is a little down and I know that I've already listed my 3, but this was made me really mad today. Garrett drove some guys around last night at a bachlor party and one of the guys was inconsiderate enough to smoke a cigarrette in my car without asking. Garrett didn't know he was doing it because he couldn't really smell very well at the time but in the morning when he got in my car he said that his heart sank because of how strongly the car smelled of smoke. With my heightened sense of smell and the fact that I'm already sensitive to cigarrette smoke (its an asthma trigger for me) I could tell instantly. We've been trying to air out the car all day. It still smells but I'm sure it'll start to lessen over time. In the meantime, we took Garrett's car out the rest of the day.

Well, I hope I don't sound like a big complainer, its just been a week of emotional highs and lows and I think I'm a bit worn out by it all. Or maybe I'm just feeling worn out because its 11:30 at night and I'm still up. Anyways, HAPPY HALLOWEEN! Below are a few pictures of our pumpkins!

From left to right: Christine (top left), Garrett, Justin, Trey, and my pumpkins!

My pumpkin had a silly shape so I thought it needed a silly face.

Garrett's transformer pumpkin. He LOVES pumpkin carving and always amazes me with the detail that he puts into carving. He drew his own template again this year.

7 Years of Dating!

So this Monday marks the 7 year anniversary of my first date with my husband. Now, 7 years ago we weren't sure whether or not to call it a "date" but we decided that it was probably the first truly "date like" of our outings during those days. After all a late night picnic that ends up lasting till 3 am where you talk for hours and hours sure sounds like a date- especially when its just the two of you!

It started out as a group outing where we went to the Aggie Football game with the rest of our group of friends. Afterward we were both hungry and none of our friends wanted to go out to eat- they all had places to be or other things to do and it ended up being just the two of us trying to decide what we wanted to eat. It started out very non-date like and I went over to Garrett's apartment so that we could catch up with his roommates and their family members who were in town and I met his roommate's mom, Debbie. We were going to make something at his apartment but then Garrett said he needed a cheese grater so we could cook something so we ran to my dorm to grab mine. Then we decided we didn't want to cook after all and decided to go get fast food instead.Well, all the fast food places had closed their dining rooms at this point so we ended up going back to our places to grab our coats and a picnic blanket and then went through the Wendy's Drive through and headed out to Research Park. It may sound strange since it was midnight but Research park is well lit and quite busy even late at night and patrolled regularly by the police so we felt pretty safe picnicking this late at night. Looking back we realized that we sure went through a lot of food plans before we settled on a picnic and it would have been easy to give up on food so we figured this had to be classified as a date. :-) Of course, we didn't admit it to each other until 3 months later. We unofficially dated for a few months before getting the nerve to define it.

Anyways, if we want to REALLY go back in time Garrett and I went out for food just the two of us twice before in the fall of 2001 and those were sort of dates. Only we classified it as two hungry classmates who weren't looking to date. (but we both thought each other were cute.) :-)

Here is a short photo time line of the 8 years that I have known my husband:

Whew. Garrett and I take way too many photos. Or maybe I just have my photo folders named badly and inconsistently. The further along the time line I got the more quickly and randomly I chose each photo! I think I've learned something about how to name my photos moving into the future... :-) We have over 68 GB of photos in my "My Pictures" folder. (Over 28,000 files and 780 different folders).

Well, I can't believe that it was 7 years ago that we started dating. I truly can't. It doesn't feel like it could be that long ago! We were 18 and 20 when we met and 19 and 21 when we started dating. I feel so blessed that I married my best friend and that we have such a long rich history together! He's amazing!
